Coast: Charleston’s Freshest Seafood

          Fred Coast

Coast is one of the finest seafood restaurants in the Charleston area and serves the freshest seafood around. Laura Radley, a long-time fan and customer of Coast, says she loves “the casual, relaxed atmosphere. It’s not too fancy, yet it’s still classy enough for a nice first date or an anniversary dinner. It’s just right, and it has a wonderful bar and a great menu.” Laura recommends that you try the Buffalo Shrimp as an appetizer along side a Seafood Cobb Salad. She even claims that the Seafood Cobb Salad is a salad even “a manly man won’t be afraid to order” because it is topped with blue cheese, bacon, avocado, scallops, and mussels. This is one of Chef Fred Neuville’s specialties, and you can certainly tell that he is one talented chef by sampling this dish.

Chef Neuville is not only the Executive Chef for Coast, but he also created the menu for 39 Rue de Jean, and he says that “creating the menu for Coast was like taking a year-long culinary journey around the world,” which means you can sample unique seafood dishes from around the world at this one restaurant. What a deal!

The heart of the restaurant is the custom made oak and hickory wood burning grill. The grill certainly adds to the laid back, Lowcountry ambiance, but what goes on the grill is even better. The chefs take pride in serving the freshest fish in town; they even meet daily with local anglers to guarantee the quality of their product.

Hank's Seafood

HanksHank’s Seafood Restaurant is located in a turn-of-the-century warehouse overlooking the Historic Market in Charleston, South Carolina. This one-of-a-kind seafood restaurant “re-creates a classic Charleston Fish House with an old fashioned saloon-style bar.” Hank's has been beautifully renovated to an ambiance that reflects Charleston's port history and family roots.

Regina, a regular guest of Hank’s, says, “The first thing that struck me about Hank’s was the pleasant atmosphere.” The “pleasant atmosphere” is not the only reason to visit Hank’s , this savory seafood restaurant also features excellent southern-style food, such as She Crab Soup, Bouillabaisse, Carpaccio of Salmon, and Sesame Crusted Tuna. Friendly service and a unique wine list earn this new restaurant top honor by locals and visitors a like. You can’t go wrong with any of those menu items!

It’s no wonder that the food sounds and tastes so wonderful, Chef Frank McMahon, founder of Hank’s Seafood, graduated from the Culinary Institute of America. In 1999, he opened Hank's as a modern interpretation of a classic Charleston fish house, where he fashioned a menu of the genre, offering fried seafood platters and traditional Low country dishes, while showcasing his creativity with more current culinary influences. Purposefully unpretentious but nonetheless dignified, it presents an appealing blend of retro and contemporary elements that complement rather than clash. He makes an excellent appetizer of Steamed Mussels with White Wine Garlic and Parsley, so make sure to try it. Visit Hank’s for great old-fashioned southern hospitality and even better southern food.

For reservations call, 843-723-3474 or visit their website at www.HanksSeafood.com. Price range is $20 - $30. Hours of operations are Sunday - Thursday, 5:00 - 10:30 PM and Friday and Saturday, 5:00 - 11:30 PM. Hanks Seafood Restaurant can be located at the corner of CHURCH & HAYNE STREET in Historical Downtown Charleston, South Carolina.
