Ever heard the phrase: Kids just wanna have fun? 

Well it’s true and Houston has fun events just for kids!  When you’re looking for ways to entertain your young ones, and yourself, the Bay area has tons of events and activities to suit any parent’s needs and budget. 

When it’s time to get out of the house and enjoy fun times with the family and kids, check out these events happening in the area that will have you grinning ear-to-ear and your kids happier than the Mickey Mouse club!

Treasures from Shanghai
Houston Museum of Natural Science

Treasures from Shanghai: 5,000 Years of Chinese Art and Culture features the first collection to travel to the United States from the internationally renowned Shanghai Museum in over 20 years, with rare, ancient artifacts dating back to 3,000 BC.

Morena Moderna: Virgin de Guadalupe

Morena Moderna: Virgin de Guadalupe explores the origins and cultural influence of the Virgin of Guadalupe through a comprehensive collection of 25 photographs complemented by a film and integrated with performance art. 713.639.4629; www.hmns.org

 

Sounds of the Past
Sam Houston Park and Heritage Society
Time: During museum hours; Daily except Mon 10/2/07-2/3/08
Cost: Free

Sounds of the Past: Phonographs, Radios, and Records chronicles the transition of recorded sound from the phonograph to the radio, and also presents famous and historic radio broadcasts. So visitors can not only see how these musical machines work, but also hear them. 713.655.1912; www.heritagesociety.org.


Cockrell Butterfly Center & Hall of Entomology
Houston Museum of Natural Science

Cost: Adults $8; Seniors and children (3-11) $6, (under 3) free

The butterfly exhibit is a three-story glass structure that showcases hundreds of live butterflies in a naturalistic rainforest setting, where butterflies flutter among - and occasionally land on - visitors strolling the paths or relaxing on benches. The Brown Hall of Entomology contains several live insects from around the world, as well as interactive displays. A children's room provides a nice quiet spot for parents to sit and for kids to use their imaginations - on hand are books, puzzles, games, tables and chairs, soft benches, insect puppets, and a giant beehive for kids to crawl through and clamber upon. 713.639.4629

Sesame Street Presents: The Body
The Health Museum

Cost: Adults $12; Seniors & Children (3-17) $11, (2 & under) free

The Body features Elmo, Oscar, Grover, and the rest the Sesame Street gang in an interactive exhibit, covering everything about the human body from fingers and toes to squishy insides. Activities include Super Grover's Obstacle Course, Oscar's Sneeze Machine, Rosita's Locomotion, Baby Bear's Mini-Mart, and more. At least six free nature-oriented programs ranging from guided nature hikes to live animal programs to video and slide shows are presented. Programs change from week to week.

Free Family Nights
