Caesars Palace - "The Forms"
The Forum Shops at Caesars is a 634,000 ft mall located adjacent to Caesars Palace on the Las Vegas Strip in Las Vegas, Nevada. Built as an extension wing of the main casino at Caesars Palace, this was the first destination mall on The Strip, the mall now fronts on The Strip. It is the highest grossing mall in American, out beating Rodeo Drive in Beverly hills.
This unique indoor shopping environment boasts a unique atmosphere that simulates ancient Roman streets including fountains, statues and facades. It features a ceiling painted as the sky that goes through a 24 hour day every hour. It is one of the most successful shopping malls in the United States, and recently added 175,000 square feet of space including a circular escalator.
What sets the Forum Shops apart, however, is its specialty shops and attractions. With plenty to keep you busy for an afternoon, the 175,000-square-foot, three-level addition includes an array of upscale shops and several new restaurants, as well as a spiral escalator -- one of only two in the United States. Shopping favorites includes AlX Armani Exchange, Dolce & Gabbana, Coach and Lalique. Restaurants in the expansion include Il Mulino New York and Sushi Roku. For dessert, stop in Vosges Haut-Chocolat for some gourmet sweets.
Realistic appearing stone statues in the fountains of the mall, come to life and perform several times throughout the day. Located next to The Cheesecake Factory, the free fountain show uses lifelike animatronic figures to recount the myth of Atlantis. The story unfolds as King Atlas tries to determine which of his children will rule Atlantis. The siblings try to destroy each another, poisoning the kingdom with their greed. Finally, the gods decide to step in and settle the dispute, launching the Fall of Atlantis. A 20-foot winged beast appears from behind Atlas' throne and watches over the destruction as Atlantis is consumed by fire and then flooding water. Amazing special effects & surround speakers add event more enjoyment to this an going event.
When entering the shops from the parking garage, you'll have to walk through only a portion of the casino. If you're coming from the Strip, head through the new pedestrian plaza, which creates an impressive entrance into the Forum Shops' expansion. Inside the doors, visitors are greeted by a large reflecting pool, huge Roman statues and a beautiful glass domed ceiling.
History: The Roman Forum, Forum Romanum, (although the Romans called it more often the Forum Magnum or just the Forum) was the central area around which ancient Rome developed, in which commerce and the administration of justice took place. The communal hearth was also located here. It was built on the site of a past cemetery.
