Paint Like A Pro!
The first thing to do when you want to paint a room is make sure the walls are clean. Be sure to remove all the dust and dirt spots with a gentle soap and a cellulose sponge. After you do that, go back over the wall with a light rinse to remove the soap completely. When you are taping off the trim, window, and door frames be sure to use painters blue tape. Peel the tape immediately after painting the wall, if you wait until it dries, you may pull some of the paint off. Typically you should stay 2 to 3 inches away from the edge of windows and doors. If your roller won’t reach a spot, use a brush for those areas. Always wait until the first coat dries before deciding whether or not you need a second one.
A few painting tips: Do not insert your brush more than a third of the way into the paint can. If you dip it in too far the paint can clog the bristles. Store paint cans upside down to create a seal. Make sure you store water-based paint where it can’t freeze.
When you are deciding what color to use on your wall don’t make your color decision in store because that color can look completely different when you get it home. Instead, take the paint card home with you and stick it on the wall to see the color in your lighting. Also, don’t paint the whole room then decide you don’t like it. Paint a small foam board the color you want for your room, and then move the board around to a different area at different times of day to see what that color will look like at different times and places. To do this, instead of having to buy a whole quart of paint, www.farrow-ball.com offers customers a $5 pot of paint that will cover 10 square feet.
Matching any color is now available at any Ace Hardware, Home Depot or Lowes store. The sample fabric, carpeting, or wallpaper must be flat and a ½ inch square at minimum. At Home Depot they also offer software to virtually show you how a room will look with whatever color you can think of.
Next time you go to paint any room, you’ll be a pro!

For a more traditional, simple design, customers can view the forever fashionable, classic look of the Cast Iron sink.
The Kallista display features three very unique lines from three very trendy designers. For a more balanced, simplistic design take a look at Barbara Barry's collection of marble-set tops and the sensible modern appeal of mahogany and polished nickel. If you like a more unique look, Laura Kirar's collection of beautiful limestone tops, swivel drawers, and American Black Walnut finish will have you swooning. As for those who prefer a more classical, historical atmosphere, Michael S. Smith's re-creation of the cinematic architecture of the '30s and '40s is the way to go.
When you visit Bogan's luxurious showroom, don't forget to browse through the kitchen appliances. The showroom also features high end appliances such as a 15 inch unit fully equipped with two gas burners, two electric burners, a fryer, a steamer, and a warming drawer.

Upon asking the sales professionals what their favorite item in the showroom is, Cindy Todd responded, "I would say the Digital Shower System (DTV) because it’s an entire bathroom in one, and it's all touch control. For the whole package, it's the best deal by far." Anna, another highly qualified sales representative at the Pensacola showroom, says, "It's hard to decide on one item because we sell so many different types of styles. The customer needs to have a design in mind, and then we can definitely help that person find what he or she is looking for." Also, remember that the sales staff is there to accommodate your every need. Bogan Supply is spectacular because it sends each of its sales professionals to training classes to make sure they do the best job they possibly can. They train with the vendors and work directly with the designers. Do yourself a favor, and leave decorating to the professionals; leave it to Bogan Supply Company, Inc.

Floor City Has You Covered

After talking with Dan Cash for just a few minutes, you know you have made a wise choice to purchase new flooring for your home from Floor City USA.
Perhaps it’s the experience he gained from a military career spanning 26 years that prepared him for operating a successful business. After all, his last Navy job was as program manager for the Navy’s leadership training. Or, maybe it is his family upbringing that makes the business stand out.
Regardless, the Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce named Floor City USA it’s July 2007 Small Business of the Month.
Dan and his wife, Terrie opened Floor City in 2003. Now, Dan’s sisters, Terry, and Sherry and his brother-in law, Keith make it a family affair, with each contributing special talents and skills.
“My wife, Terrie, is an accomplished artist and enjoys helping customers with design and theme issues,” smiled Dan.
And, if you haven’t decided exactly what type of flooring you want in your new or remodeled home, you “better bring a sack lunch,” explains Dan, “because it will take a while to look at everything.”
Floor City USA has more than 50 distributors of flooring products. They carry carpet, wood (both solid and engineered), cork, ceramic and porcelain tile, vinyl, laminate, bamboo, which is actually a grass, and even leather!
Carpet, both indoor and outdoor, makes up only a small percentage of total sales. The trend for the past several years has been hard surfaces.
“The only difference is the tiles keep getting larger,” Dan continued. “Of course, tile, especially ceramic, porcelain or wood, will increase the value of your home also.
Other projects using these products include counter tops, vanities, back splashes, patios and showers, to name a few.
Although Floor City does not install the products sold, they do have a list of contractors that Dan proudly supplies to customers. “We want our clients to be totally satisfied with our business, so we ask for feedback. The contractors earned their way onto our list as proven professionals who perform quality installation work,” he said.

Urban Objects is Here for You.
Have you finally gotten your home the way you want it, but now you need to set the lighting or add just another touch of something that will really make it shine? Do you really want to light up the style that is all your own and your lighting has to fit that style without breaking your wallet?
|
I was recently able to catch up with Sarah Gillette, the owner of Urban Objects, and talk to her about her unique store.
I asked Sarah what her most popular item was to which she laughed and stated:
“It’s hard to say what is the most popular because I sell so many different things.”
After a little more prodding, we were able to determine that amongst her lighting items the wall sconces and rail systems seemed extremely popular with her customers. Among her gift items, it seems the Baggallini bags, bronze covers, and her line of gifts by Fred were on the top sellers. As I got to look at her merchandise, I asked what perhaps the newest hot items in her store were and she said that she recently received shipments of Ghost Candelabras made from a European designer. These acrylic candelabras are something of a play off the Louis Ghost Chair, a very modern piece. For something a little more playful, she also offers diamond-shaped ice cube trays – a definite must at your next gathering!
After looking at her products, I finally just straight asked Sarah what it is that makes Urban Objects stand apart from other Home and Garden type stores.
“We offer contemporary, transitional, and unique items that can’t be found in the surrounding areas.”
I tucked that thought in the back of my mind and focused on the store atmosphere.
The store will greet you with relaxing jazz music and associates that will give you personal attention and even a glass of wine to put you in the mood for shopping. Around every bend are dazzling lighting fixtures meant to accentuate your home. The entire store had a very down-to-earth feel and everyone was extremely friendly. |
As one gets to look at all the items Urban Objects offers, ideas just start rushing in. You can’t help but notice all the items that would really light up your next summer party. The bronze doorbells would make your guests smile as they announce themselves, the wall sconces would light up the entryway delightfully, and those rail lights would look exquisite in the Florida room and the diamond-shaped ice cube trays would make a great accessory to the cold drinks served.
Later after my talk with Sarah, I jumped online and decided to find out for myself about her products not being readily available in the nearby area.
She was completely honest.
I looked around online for the same funky accessories, wall hangings, sconces, and such that she offered and I found them…but mostly in other cities or only online (in which case you’d have to worry about shipping costs, if it’s damaged during shipping, and waiting for it to arrive). She’s also already been featured in the Pensacola Business Journal in April for her Baggallini bags.
I also found out that Sarah and Urban Objects gives back to the community by being sponsors of the Pensacola Museum of Art where she makes donations.
So, in conclusion, the bare basics that you need to know about Urban Objects is:
Urban Objects offers items that you won’t find anywhere else in Pensacola. Funky accessories, wall hangings, rail lighting, sconces, and more that you could try to buy from expensive online stores can be found among the items sold right here at Urban Objects.
Shopping at Urban Objects is truly a unique experience you don’t want to miss. They have something for every walk of life and their products will truly make your home stand out! |
Urban Objects is open Tuesday – Friday 11:00a.m. – 6:00p.m,
Saturday 11:00a.m. – 3:00p.m, and on Mondays by appointment.

It's time to get the pool ready for summer! Here's some quick tips on getting your pool decked out and ready for fun:
- Check the area
- Clean up around the pool
- Make sure you've got the proper safety gear like a life preserver and "Shepard's Hook". You'll never know when you might need them!
- Get the pool cleaned
- You've probably had the pool covered for awhile and now's the time to uncover it. Either go the full 9 yards and hire a professional or go get a pool cleaning kit and follow the directions.
- After using the pool cleaning supplies, lock them up!
- Clean up the pool furniture
- If you've already got the furniture, spray it off and clean it up. Nothing says "lazy" more than having mildew on your pool chairs
- If you don't have pool furniture, think about getting some. A few lounge chairs goes a long way and really aren't too expensive.
- Have some toys for children
- If you're opening up the pool for kids, have the right accessories for them!
- Floats of all sizes and types are a must
- Floatation devices for young children are an even bigger must
- Swim flippers and googles. Kids love these things and they come in handy for all the pool games.
It's not too hard nor time-consuming to get your pool ready. So gear up, get the pool done and get ready for a splash-filled summer of fun!
